At the invitation of Lorraine Bouchard (my enamelling instructor) I was invited to participate in this exhibition and I'm pleased to say that my little enamelled chickadee sold this week!

Mésanges
This is what these little birds are called here in french speaking Quebec.
The desire to do a little watercolour one afternoon resulted in this year's Christmas cards.

Some of my favourite things.....
These peonies were left from our backyard wedding and were the most spectacular I had ever seen. I photographed them for days hoping to have at least one image I could paint from. (I think I do). The chickadee is a collage from a series started last year. I picked it up again and have created a few more. Each time, I marvel at how much I learn when I work in a series. My santos doll doesn't have to have a purpose. She has an air of grace and beauty. I have great plans for her. The portrait of the little girl I just couldn't part with. Her intense gaze pulls you in.
Wow, I just realized this is my 400th post!

Collage
Having fun these first few months of the year participating in Lilla Rogers MATS Bootcamp 2015.
Working towards assembling a portfolio of work for possible licensing. I've done a sprinkling of
freelance illustration work but would like to have a stronger presence in that field.

A companion
Having fun with these. This now completes a series of three chickadees but definitely not a completion of this media. My next one might be a cardinal.

Explore a Different Path
I think I'm getting the hang of this....
Explore a Different Path
Creating an image in collage is a different than when painting for obvious reasons. Having completed this second one, I am starting to accumulate a few notes on a working approach. Really looking forward to starting the next one with a new and improved work flow.

Something I've been meaning to do....
For various reasons I've been making painted papers over the years and for some reason, I haven't had a reason to use them. Some papers I like so much as is that I hesitate to tear them apart. But this time I felt motivated enough to make this little collage of a chickadee. Funny enough, most of my papers were of very saturated high key colours (which were fun to make) but for this collage I need mostly neutrals. It doesn't take much but it's nice to have a ready assortment to pick and choose from. So having done this one, I'm going to make a few more. But not before I make another assortment of beautiful neutrals. Once I've completed a few more, I'll put these up as prints and notecards in my Etsy shop which I've sadly neglected in recent months.
